One day at a time...

I love it when all the Christmas magazines come out in the shops don't you? I had to have this one because of the 'freebee' inside!
Lots of ideas for presents here....

...and in the magazine itself.. this lovely advent calender to make.I thought it could also be adapted after Christmas to use as a 'notes' board or for photos or birthday cards.
Here are the instructions, should you get the urge to make it yourself.

You will need

* pinking shears
*craft paper
*small envelopes
*paper and fabric glue
*pinboard
*fabric
*clothes pegs

Instructions

*Cut out 24 pieces of decorative paper slightly
smaller than the size of your envelopes.
*Cut out 24 smaller pieces of white paper and stamp
or draw the numbers 1-24 on them.
*Glue the white pieces onto the coloured pieces of paper
then glue these on to the envelopes.
*Cover pinboard with fabric.
*Glue pegs to the board.
Allow to dry before attaching your envelopes...
filled with little chocs, sweets, words or whatever you fancy.

I think I'll have a go at making one....how about you?

This weekend I've....

.....knitted a few more squares for my blanket, and sewn a few together.....
.....Bought and wrapped a few Christmas presents....
.....found a rather tatty mug tree in the charity shop for 50p,and given it a touch of paint...

....couldn't resist buying this....for say, sprinkling chocolate over your cappachino,or for icing sugar on your puddings?
...and this vintage style coaster....
....a £1 mug....and a jam pot to match my little spotty jug.
....lastly,this slate heart( can't resist hearts!),to hang in the kitchen....
...Oooh,look!.....someone has written a message on it...I wonder who that could be?!

I've made a start..

The bedroom 'makeover's' coming along nicely.
I've made a start on the blanket, although I've only knitted 6 squares so far...mainly because we've been out quite a bit in the evenings this week.
Today I decided to have a sort of my chintz china and group it all together.I think collections look better displayed like that anyway...don't you?
Also, in the back of my linen cupboard, I found a large pillowcase I bought ages ago in Ikea.As luck would have it,the colours match up very well with the new CK duvet cover,so I've put it over the old cushion on the Lloyd loom chair.I like to put florals and checks together.I'm also thinking of painting the pine dressing table.. and fitting new handles.. maybe.
Now I'm on the lookout for some new curtains.I'm thinking blue and white check....what do you think?

No more biscuits!

Hands up if you've ever been on a diet?....I 'see' a lot of hands!!
I seem to have been on one diet or another all my adult life.I've tried every type of diet going and yes.. they work... and I lose while I'm ON them, but then it all piles back on again when I get those cravings and give in to that.. 'just one'... chocolate,or biscuit, and then I'm back to square one.
Mind you...if I'd NEVER been on a diet I'd probably be about 50 stone by now!!
I've been all sizes ...from a 10/12..a looooong time ago,up to an 18...and everything in between.
Anyway..with Christmas fast approaching...I'm going to TRY and lose a few pounds before then...so..it's NO to these....
...infact anything containing this...
...so that rules out anymore.....
....and means LOTS more walking with....
'Bella... wake up!'...we're going for a five mile walk.

What shall I knit?

Hope you had a good weekend despite the awful weather.Sunday dawned a bit brighter here, and we managed a nice walk in the woods with Bella.
I've given up on the crochet for the time being.I think I'll wait until I see my sister, and she can show me.Much better than trying to follow instructions in a book.In the meantime I've bought this wool and I'm going to make a blanket of squares for the bedroom.
I've chosen red and blue to go with my lovely Cath kidston 'bouquet' bedding.
I haven't done any knitting for years, but it's surprising how quickly it comes back to you.Still,I think it will probably be NEXT Christmas before I finish it.I wonder how many squares I'll have to knit?
Anyway, it'll keep my hands busy on those long Winter evenings.....Beeeelllaaaa!!.... come- BACK- with -that- wool!!!

Sweet dolly knit

Now I could tell you a big, fat, fib and say I knitted this...but sadly no...I'm not that clever. She was sitting amongst the toys in the charity shop I popped into yesterday and I couldn't resist! She was 'marked' at £1.99 which I thought was amazing considering how much time it must have taken to make her.

...love the cute plaits!
Almost don't want to part with her,but I know a little girl who would love to find her in her stocking on Xmas day.

We've got new neighbours moving in this morning and Bella's barking her head off as the removal van's just arrived. What a day to be unloading your wordly goods. It's pouring!...and it looks like it's going to continue all weekend.Flood warnings next!
Hope it's better where you are.

Have a good weekend...whatever you're doing.

A box full of memories

The house is starting to groan with all the things I've been collecting over the years! Not only am I a collector...but also a HOARDER.I think I must take after my mother who can never throw anything away.'It might come in useful one day', she says. It's said that if you haven't used something or wanted it in 6 months...then throw it away...you won't need it or indeed miss it.
Some things are so special to you, that you simple can't let them go,and in this box...CK of course!...are some of my special momentoes which I'd like to share with you.
This is a picture of my first 'goldie'...the sweetest, gentlest dog you could ever wish to meet...and a little piece of her fur.She lived until the ripe old age of 16,and it was one of the saddest days of my life when we had to take her to the vet to be 'put to sleep'.
These little books are from my gorgeous Mr Boo...
...also these anniversary cards...
...and this fridge magnet...
...and teddy. He used to leave...and still does.. little gifts like this around the house for me to find, and chocolate hearts too.. sweet and romantic man that he is!.
On special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries we celebrate with a bottle of bubbly, and I've kept this cork from the day we got engaged.
Also in the box is a short little video of our wedding which a friend very kindly made for us.
We got married in the little village church, just up the lane from where my Mum and Dad lived, and had the reception in a marqee in their garden. It was a magical day and we love to get the video out...usually on anniversaries...and re-live that wonderful day.

Here is the picture of the church...made into a coaster.
I've also kept the box of matches from the hotel we stayed in on our wedding night...
...and these little flowers made of icing....

... from the wedding cake...together with a piece of material from my 'going away' outfit.
...lovely old family photos....
.. and Bella's first collar...
...special cards and 'makes' from my lovely nieces and nephew...

....and more cards!!
...and diaries. Not the kind that you'd be mortified if anybody got hold of them...but just my record of daily activies and events.Nice to get out and read on a rainy day and reminisce.
Some letters written to me by my Dad while I was abroad for a while... very precious, because he wasn't one for writing much, and they're a little record of that moment in his life.
... and his shaving brush. When I was a small child I loved to watch him shaving.I found it fascinating and would squeeze in the little space between the basin and the wall to get a better view!

I hope you've enjoyed a peak into my 'box of memories'.....do you have one you'd like to share?
